For 28 years Toni has been a Member of the AWS Legal team, since graduating from Otago University in 1994. She initially focused on private client property and asset planning dealings and rest home acquisitions, and now specialises in small and large scale farming deals including syndication work, financing, and contract negotiations.

Born and educated mostly in Southland, Toni, who joined the Partnership in 2001 after 7 years working her way through the firm ranks, enjoys being one of the 4 Partners in the well connected and busy Rural practice group.  “We have a Team approach which works well for us and serves our many rural clients very well with our accessibility in and out of the office, a wide range of experience and use of technology”.

Farming is a big operation now – for many it’s running a large company and the rural team have up-skilled themselves and their staff to meet the diverse rural sector needs.” New issues are always coming to the fore – dairy company structure changes, environmental concerns, water accessibility and ownership structure changes of late and are all dealt with by Toni and the team on a daily basis. Farm succession is also high priority within the rural team helping to guiding farming families through that process, which is often difficult and time consuming.

Toni is also an active member of the Southland community previously serving time as a Trustee of Sport Southland. She has also served as a Director of Stadium Southland Limited, the management company charged with running the popular local venue, and was a member of a Rotary Group Study Exchange which involved travelling and spending time in UK legal firms. She has also completed a 4 year term as a Trustee of the Community Trust of Southland. Toni is a former board member for Cycling Southland. She is currently a Trustee of the Southland Amateur Sports Trust and the Deputy Chair Person for the James Hargest College Board of Trustees and former President of the Southland Branch of the NZ Law Society.

Out of the office spending time with her husband and 3 children is high priority and Toni involves herself in their many sporting and cultural activities. Toni likes to keep very fit and participates in endurance events as time allows, and likes to travel and go camping with her family.
