“My approach is to be human and to serve as a trusted advisor for my clients. I adapt to them and their needs, regardless of their background. Every experience, including my own, is a learning opportunity.”

Shauna is a dedicated Partner at AWS Legal in Invercargill specialising in Estates and Litigation. Admitted to the bar in 2009, Shauna has been diligently serving the community of Invercargill with her legal prowess, and she joined the AWS legal team in 2017, bringing her unique experience and expertise to our firm.

Shauna stands out in the legal profession for her expertise in navigating the complexities of estate planning, optimising asset structures, and ensuring smooth wealth transfer. The nature of these matters often involves negotiating family dynamics and potential disputes; here, Shauna’s exceptional negotiation skills and sensitive approach become invaluable. She has a knack for guiding clients through these often emotionally charged situations.

“When family members are involved, the situation must be tackled delicately. The preservation of relationships is vital.”

But Shauna is no stranger to the courtroom and has extensive experience having defended hearings in the District and Family Courts and appeared regularly for various matters in the High Court.

“In instances where we are too far apart, I am prepared to advocate for litigation. The key is to understand your case well and know when to settle and when to fight.”

When she steps out of her professional role, Shauna is a devoted mother to her two little boys. “Balancing my professional and personal life is something I am passionate about. I defend my private time ardently and ensure I am there for my family.” Born and bred in Southland, she values the beauty of her local environment and enjoys spending quality time with her family there. She also commits a significant amount of her personal time to a local non-profit, Southland Help, where she serves as the chair.

Despite her extensive professional journey, Shauna remains approachable and always prioritises her clients’ needs. “My approach is to be human and to serve as a trusted advisor for my clients. I adapt to them and their needs, regardless of their background. Every experience, including my own, is a learning opportunity.”

As the legal landscape continues to evolve, particularly with advancements in technology and the impending transfer of wealth from the baby boomer generation, Shauna is ready to guide her clients through these changes. Her negotiation skills, courtroom experience, and unwavering dedication make her an invaluable asset to her clients and AWS Legal.
