Experienced commercial lawyer Rachel Lindsay: Leading the way in energy, forestry, and corporate Law at AWS Legal

Rachel Lindsay is an experienced commercial and corporate lawyer who has been with AWS Legal since she graduated from Otago University in 2006 with an LLB (Hons). Rachel has specific expertise in the energy and forestry sectors and is the relationship partner for AWS Legal with PowerNet Limited and Invercargill Airport. She is experienced in advising on company and trust matters, corporate governance and directors duties and consumer and privacy law.

Rachel also enjoys working with small and medium-sized businesses and start-ups and assisting clients with intellectual property matters.

Rachel advises on all aspects of contractual negotiations, including drafting and settling ‘watertight’ commercial contracts. This includes shareholder, partnership and joint venture agreements, supply, distribution and agency agreements, franchising arrangements and licence agreements. Rachel’s commercial advice always considers her clients’ strategic objectives and operational imperatives.

Earlier in her career, Rachel represented clients in a range of civil matters in the District and High Courts. This litigation experience has given her a unique perspective which now informs her commercial practice (read: helping clients stay out of sticky situations!)

Rachel also has a strong interest in corporate governance and is currently on the boards of the Southland Regional Development Agency Limited (“Great South”) and the Tuatapere Hump Track Limited, which manages New Zealand’s next Great Walk.

Rachel is an Associate Member of the Institute of Directors and has completed the governance essentials year long programme alongside other governance training. She also currently serves as the Convenor of the Southland Standards Committee for lawyers.

Outside of her legal practice Rachel enjoys getting into the outdoors whether it be hiking, rock climbing, running or the occasional mountain summit.
