Admission to the Bar | Morgane Mitchell

Morgane was admitted at the Invercargill High Court on Tuesday 14 April, before The Honourable Justice Lang, with Eugene Roud appearing as her moving counsel.

The ceremony was attended by Morgane’s sister, Jade, and her father, David, who travelled from Vietnam to support her on this important occasion.

Reflecting on the day, Morgane described it as “Very emotional, fuelled by a lot of anticipation, nerves, and excitement.”

She expressed her gratitude to her family for making the long journey and thanked the AWS Legal team for organising everything to make the day extra special. A special thank you was also extended to Eugene for assisting her through the admission process.

Celebrations continued the following day with a morning tea hosted by the Alexandra office, providing a special opportunity for Morgane’s family to meet the team.

Morgane joined AWS Legal in September 2025. She completed her Bachelor of Laws at the University of Otago (2021–2024) and the IPLS Professional Legal Studies Course in April 2025.

Born in France and raised in Vietnam until the age of 17, Morgane moved to New Zealand to study law at the University of Otago, following her father and sister, who had both previously studied at the same university. Despite the challenges of such a move, she credits the support of friends and family for making her journey possible.

Morgane was drawn to AWS Legal for its strong reputation for mentorship, sense of community, and the wide variety of work offered within the firm. Since joining, she has felt well supported and valued, with early responsibility helping her feel truly part of the team.

Moving Counsel Eugene Roud expressed, “Morgane has been a great addition to our office in Alexandra. I thoroughly enjoyed being her moving counsel and hearing her speech, which, whilst I am biased, was the best of the day.

I look forward to seeing Morgane grow and develop as a lawyer, now that she is officially admitted and has received her practising certificate.”

AWS Legal congratulates Morgane on this significant milestone and looks forward to supporting her continued growth and development as part of the team.
