Cam has played a pivotal role in significant property and development projects throughout New Zealand, earning him the title of NZ Lawyer Rising Star in 2022.
Cameron Murphy is a Partner in the Property & Projects Team at AWS Legal. He specialises in commercial and property law and has 13 years of expertise in property development, financing, property acquisitions & disposals, complex subdivisions, commercial leasing and residential conveyancing.
Cam works from the AWS Legal Christchurch Office on a weekly basis and has been intimately involved in a number of significant property and development projects throughout New Zealand.
Cam graduated from Otago University in 2008 with a Double Degree in Law and Commerce. He is an accredited property specialist with the Property Law Section and an Associate Member of the NZ Institute of Directors.
Outside of work, Cam enjoys cricket and swimming and can often be found participating in one of the AWS Legal social sports teams.
Examples of Cam’s experience is set out below.
- Acting on a number of significant construction and development projects as part of the Christchurch rebuild, including providing advice relating to property acquisitions & disposals, subdivisions, development agreements and commercial leases;
- Substantial transactional experience including negotiating and drafting bespoke property development agreements, acquisition & disposal agreements;
- Acting for large commercial and retail landlord and tenant clients and providing advice on all aspects of their leasing arrangements;
- Advising on a broad range of commercial transactions including acquisitions and disposals, corporate restructurings and the negotiation of commercial contracts;
- Undertaking complex subdivisions including specialised advice relating to easements, covenants, encumbrances, consent notices and the Unit Titles Act;
- Providing specialised legal advice on a large construction and development company restructure including responsibility for all aspects of the property component of the restructure with a value in excess of $180million.
In 2022, Cam was named a NZ Lawyer Rising star, an award given to “exceptional lawyers” who have demonstrated technical skills, shown leadership and a ‘‘true passion’’ for the legal profession.
