Congratulations to AWS Legal’s Newest Solicitors: Harrison Croy, Alice Hoogvliet & Nick Wilson

Harry Croy travelled from his home base in Clyde to be admitted to the bar at the Invercargill High Court on Tuesday 12 December under the watchful eye of his family.

Moving Counsel, Dave Gibson, a AWS Legal Partner was happy to make the trip to be a part of the day, offering “Harry joined the Alexandra team in 2022 as a summer clerk and quickly made a great impression with his enthusiasm and work ethic. Harry grew up in the Clyde area and we are delighted that he has come back to join us in the Alex team to start his career in the rural team”.

After the ceremony and celebrations, Harry said of the day “The admission ceremony was a hugely significant moment for not only myself, but for everyone there. The ceremony was very powerful and moving, especially being given the privilege to listen to Justice Preston, who offered amazing insight and advise that will help us all in our careers”.

Alice made the trip from Queenstown to be admitted to the bar at the Invercargill High Court on Tuesday 8 December.  She was accompanied by her family and husband who were brimming with excitement to see her hard work come to fruition.

Moving Counsel, Haydon Cunninghame, a Partner of AWS Legal says, “We’re very lucky to have Alice in the AWS Legal team.  Hardworking, with an inquiring mind and sharp wit, Alice will go far in the law and we look forward to watching her career develop.  We congratulate Alice on this significant achievement and welcome her to the profession”.

Reflecting on the day, Alice shared, “It is a significant milestone to reach in your career, and incredibly special to do so alongside other candidates and the friends, family and colleagues who have helped us get here – it truly is a collective effort!”.

Nick was admitted to the bar at Christchurch last Friday, 8 December. Nick was joined by his father, Scott Wilson, who was his moving Counsel, and family who were proud to be a part of this significant milestone marking the culmination of a few long years of academic work, and the true starting point of a new career.

When asked what the day meant to him, Nick offered “It was a day that made me proud to join my dad and sister as solicitors, as well as contributing to the Wilson whakapapa of lawyers, dating back to my great, great grandfather Judge Thomas Henry Wilson who was the first Māori Judge of the Native, now Māori Land Court, having been appointed in 1911”.

Jenny Denley, Partner of AWS Legal in Alexandra says, “Nick joined the Alexandra team in early 2023 as a graduate and has settled in well to his role in the Succession, Trusts and Estates team. Nick has a calm empathetic approach with clients and has been a welcome addition to the team”.

We are proud to have Harry, Alice and Nick as a part of our team, and we look forward to them contributing their expertise and fresh perspectives to serve our clients better. Congratulations to you all!
