Westpac Chopper Appeal

They sometimes say you’re an idiot to ride a bike in lycra but it takes a real idiot to ride 245 kms in lyrca!

This year Chris Menzies (and 59 others) ride from Frankton in Central Otago down to Winton then across to Riverton and Home to Invercargill.

Chris is aiming to help raise $50,000 dollars towards the Lakes District Air Rescue Trust with support of the team at Westpac Bank

Lakes District Air Rescue Trust operates helicopters based in Te Anau and Queenstown that service the wider Southland area. Each Mission cost in excess of $5600 and last year the trust carried out over 400 missions. The cost to operate is $1.2 million each year and only 50% is funded by the Government and the balance comes from the community, general fundraising and the Westpac Chopper Appeal.     Without the support of our local community we wouldn't have access to the life saving chopper in our area.

We all hope that it doesn’t happen to somebody we know, but that is what happened just months ago with one of our long time supporters and riders needing to be rescued!
