The Property & Projects team at AWS Legal enjoy an enviable caseload, handling high level, complex property work on a daily basis. As a team, partners Norman Elder, Cameron Murphy and Trudy Conway enjoy relationships with both major local and national clients. Their work portfolio includes property acquisitions & disposals, property development, subdivisions, leasing and financing. In addition, they are often working at the forefront of emerging areas of law, such as carbon trading and renewable energy.

The Projects and Property team work with a number of large clients New Zealand-wide. Recent projects include:

  • Sale of a portfolio of 11 industrial and commercial properties throughout New Zealand to wholesale property fund, FortHill Property Limited with a value of $170million
  • Development, leasing and sale of Hoyts EntX Entertainment Centre, Colombo Street, Christchurch
  • Purchase, subdivision, development and leasing of Carisbrook, Dunedin
  • Purchase of substantial land blocks in Wiri, Auckland for future development and negotiation of development and leasing deals
  • Negotiation of wind farm investigation licence and easement for a group of farm owners with an independent energy company
  • Preparation of a solar covenant template for an energy company and negotiations with various affected owners

Our Property & Projects and Commercial teams are known for their energy, business insight and legal expertise – locally and nationally. We give clients commercially focused legal advice on all aspects of property and commercial law. 

Norman Elder has extensive knowledge in all aspects of the law, but leads the Property and Projects Team predominantly in the areas of development, property, company law, business acquisitions, trusts and forestry.

Cameron Murphy specialises in commercial and property law and has 13 years of expertise in property development, financing, property acquisitions & disposals, complex subdivisions, commercial leasing and residential conveyancing. He was recently featured in the Otago Daily Times for his status as a 2022 Rising Star.

Trudy Conway has over 10 years’ experience in commercial and property law. Prior to joining AWS Legal in early 2019, she worked at Anderson Lloyd in Dunedin, and then at Meredith Connell and Greenwood Roche in Auckland.
